It never ceases to amaze me... - June 14, 2008

... how people come out of the woodwork and I find myself supported. Thanks everyone who came to the wonderful Albina Green tonight, friends old and new. You made it a more-than-great evening for me personally, and you looked pretty happy yourselves!

Thanks to all of you who make this possible and are part of this wonderful life! - Lincoln

Lincoln Crockett's own Simple Life (sans Paris)... - June 4, 2008

Northwest Newsletter 06/08

"Lincoln Crockett is Spirit Folk with a serious Reality Check"
- Chris Kokesh
www.lincolncrockett.com

Hi Everyone,

This month I'm happy to be writing you from my new home in
Washington, a cabin in the tiny hamlet of Trout Lake. My family and
I have been itching for a switch to the simpler life - gardening &
good times - for a while now and we finally made it happen. I'm
already writing new songs and relishing in the space and community we
have here. Come visit the websites for new pics soon!

I'm delighted to be continuing this exciting journey as a very DIY
musician, and to keep bringing you some of the best acoustic music in
the Northwest. I couldn't do it without you!

This month kicks off with three reappearances by Robb & Crockett
beginning this Thursday at Edgefield's 97th Birthday Bash, Lincoln
Crockett & Enemies this Friday AND on the 19th, my Edgefield Exorcism
on the Second Saturday, the return of the Portland Parents Show (for
music lovers and their families!) on the 18th, a second appearance at
the wonderful Albina Green in Portland, and ends with the start of an
Independence Day run into Idaho and Montana. More details on the Calendar Page!

Thank you as always for your amazing support and for being a part of
the music. C U out there soon!

Peace and be well,
Lincoln

Whoa! Folklife! - May 26, 2008

Prep for the weekend at Folklife began on Friday at the Port Townsend Brewing Company. I arrived without a PA and without a moment to spare and found myself playing for the most laid-back-and-yet-still-on-it crew of folks. A quick run to 'uptown' Port Townsend (literally the old town up onthe hill where historically all the ladies hung out while the men got debauched 'downtown' by the waterfront) to steal a speaker from another bar and I was in biz. I never know what to expect playing for people hanging outside for a drink, but this bunch drank and listened and tipped and signed the email list like we were old friends. I might sound like a broken record, but it never ceases to amaze me how people respond and who my audience are: every size, shape, color and age of man woman and child. Places like Port Townsend and I get along.

Saturday's 1pm set at Folklife's Cafe Impromptu was, well, hard to read. I always love playing, but an early day crowd looks at you the same when they're really enjoying you as when they're bored. Still, enough folks were excited
afterward to let me know I hit the mark for someone!

I must say, the Folklife street-scene is just about out of control. The buskers all have drums, so I didn't stand a chance, and gave up after 2 3-song attempts and $5. Even the other stages can all hear one another! Still, there's magic afoot amongst the chaos, and some truly great music happened. My big surprise find was the Benefit Show featuring 'Urban Indians', music and performances by Native Americans that made me laugh, cry and gave me the chills. Perhaps aggrandizing to say, but I have walked this earth before and was not a white man, to say the least.

By FAR, the highlight was the workshop I gave on Sunday, "Songwriting the Traditional Way". I was invited to lead something as part of a series of different workshops by young string-band musicians. I was the lone songwriter, but not lonely for sure. Generally, the only people interested in the art/craft/skill/lunacy of songwriting are songwriters, and all deeply want to listen and be heard. That made for some wonderful juju around the 30 person circle. It seemed illuminating for all and was definitly heartwarming for me.

Special Bonus: All weekend I reconnected with long lost friends who were showing up out of nowhere. You know who you are and thank you for being you. Thanks to all for such wonderful experiences and see you out there again soon,

Lincoln

aahhh, I love touring... - May 19, 2008

...meeting new people, seeing old friends, solidifying new friendships... just getting to share my excitement about music with new people makes it all worth while, to say nothing of actually making a living doing what I love.

That said, last weekend's run of shows was worth writing home about. Chris Kokesh and I began on Thursday in Cottage Grove, OR at the Axe and Fiddle. Great venue, always the most laid back vibe. Sparse attendance, but everyone there locked-in, right down to the end of the bar and the end of the night. Chris and I are locking in to a musical love-affair ourselves, these duo shows are special and we look forward to doing more soon.

Friday I headed out to the Dalles, OR to play at the Westwind Gallery, and ended up landing in the middle of the intersection of the tight-knit outdoors community and the tight-knit music and arts community in the Eastern Gorge. Thanks to Marty for hosting and Richard Hallman for his gorgeous photos I had to look away from, plus his shots of men quite literally throwing themselves to the wind. It was like finding a piece of the world I knew in and around Colorado right here in the Northwest. Can't wait to get back.

Saturday I returned to remote Guemes Island and the ever-supportive Anderson's General Store. People, the island is laid back, the food is amazing, and they support great live music. I was lucky enough to return when the ferry was foot-traffic only! Picture me with all my instruments, merch and gear loaded into a wheelbarrow! It was hilarious! Like Thursday it was sparse attendance, but this time due to the islanders heading out into the first really warm weather of the year. Meanwhile, those who remained and I had a great evening together. Plus tips and cd sales made it more than worth my time. I am constantly amazed by the response people have to my music. Even if they're only passing through, they take notice.

Sunday Jes Raymond and I played to my Olympia Crew in the strange and wonderful Plenty performance space. Oly is always hit or miss for music, even when Cross-eyed Rosie headed thru, but getting to share songs with my friends who know every word is like playing a stadium show as far as I'm concerned.

More road news to come. See you out there soon!

Fantastic Sampler & Exorcism! - April 15, 2008

Thanks, Everyone, for coming out and making Friday's Portland String Sampler and Saturday's Edgefield Exorcism so much fun.

A review of the String Sampler in Monday's Oregonian said "Cross-eyed Rosie just about stole the night with their cover of David Bowie's "Fame." Can't help but think Bowie would approve." It's good to finally feel cool.

Saturday's Exorcism was marked with friends and fans bringing lots of their friends and packing the winery hall so tight I had folks sitting packed in campfire-style. All we needed was the fire! It was a real treat to hear people singing the lyrics along with the words.

Thanks for your support everyone! See you again soon.

A Successful tour! - March 31, 2008

Was it the high ceilings in my antique hotel room in Port Townsend, the peanuts on the floor of the Green Frog in Bellingham, the spontaneous 'Deadwood Mandolin' set-long jam with Deadwood Revival in Seattle or the homeless jazz-man who showed up at the Mandolin Cafe in Tacoma and stayed to find some grooves with me after my set? Or just that the whole endeavor was successful enough to make this seem like a bankable way of life for the future!?

It was all of it and more - especially everyone who made it out to the shows. I was helped by some good press in Port Townsend and Bellingham, but every night people got excited, friends came out of the woodwork, and I came away with a lot of new fans. This is the most rewarding work I've ever done and I can't wait to get back out again! Step by step we're getting there.

Look for more upcoming tour dates in Oregon and Washington every month from now on!

Robb & Crockett are undeniable! - March 28, 2008

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported last Friday's live recording at Mississippi Studios. We've got the files in hand and will beging chewing on them soon. For now we are thrilled at the show: the energy that night was off the charts! You came with high expectations and from everything I've heard, even old friends and fans were blown away. I've played music to a lot of excited audiences, but never actually heard repeated gasps - repeated gasps - in song after song when the good parts hit. Thanks for coming along with Robb & Crockett and contributing to our first recording. We couldn't have done it without you.

...and a wedding engagement! - February 10, 2008

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came to this weekend's McMen's gigs:

Robb & Crockett were well-received at Grand Lodge, and a number of my fans commented "You're awesome, but the two of you playing together, that's amazing." Good times.

My Edgefield Exorcism was packed again, PLUS - even more amazing - during 'I Begin Dreaming' a man in the front row knelt before his girlfriend and proposed!! The place went nuts! He said he was waiting for that perfect moment and that song was it. You can see a picture of Justin and Jackie and I on the photos page.

Thank you for these opportunities to work magic & see you at a show soon!

Outside Portland you can stream online at www.kink.fm. Thanks to Kink for supporting local music!

thanks to everyone who made the Washington dates so successful! - January 27, 2008

This weekend's gigs in Seattle at Mr. Spot's House of Chai and on Guemes Island at Anderson's General Store were every touring musician's dream: full and enthusiastic audiences in places far from home-base. Thanks to the friends and fans who came out already knowing every word, and to everyone who came from myspace or the beautiful posters. We'll let you know when Lincoln's his way up again in March!

thank you cottage grove - January 20, 2008

... for making Lincoln and Jim McKeon welcome at the Axe & Fiddle last night. The duo filled in short-notice for a gig Cross-eyed Rosie could no longer play (hope you feel better, Alli!), giving them a chance to stretch out and have some fun, much to the delitght of the small crowd. Listeners there have definitely been touched by great music in the past, and to be well received was rewarding. It was an intimate show, the few people there probably could have squeezed into the bakery next door!

Thanks to Brad, Bart, Fred & Stacy at the Axe and to Michael "The Godfather" Cipolina at 106.7 FM KSOW for having Lincoln on for a pre-show interview, live performance and album-listening session. We look forward to being back again, next time with more notice!

Robb & Crockett's friends rock - January 18, 2008

Thanks gang, for coming out and supporting us at the Dublin Pub tonight! You are the sexiest bunch of gals and guys - and in some cases the tallest too! what's up with that? - we've ever had the pleasure to aurally pleasure. ah, inuendo...

Great to see some old friends and make some new friends as well. Hope to see you again for our wednesdays there in February!

Lincoln sits in with Banjo Killers - January 16, 2008

Tonight Lincoln sat in with banjo/slide player Tony Furtado & guitarist/mandolinist Scott Law for the second set of their January series at the Laurelthirst Pub in Portland. For those who don't know them, Tony and Scott are some of the largest names in instrumental acoustic music on the West Coast, and as it turns out both are talented songwriters and a couple of the nicest guys you'll meet. As a duo they call themselves the Banjo Killers and are playing the 'Thirst every wednesday in January.

The trio started by ripping through an amped-up version of 'Ain't Nobody Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone' followed by the instrumental 'Cherokee Shuffle'. Once it was clear that the newcomer (that's Lincoln!) could hang Tony and Scott kept him up there for the remainder of the evening! Folks were pressed up against the stage dancing, and well, it was nothing short of magical!

Thanks to The Banjo Killers for sharing the music!

Lincoln's very own band begins performing monthly on February 1st! - January 14, 2008

It's official. After a constant stream of requests from friends and fans Lincoln is pulling together his very first band and beginning a monthly performance slot. Beginning FEBRUARY 1, 2008 you can find them the FIRST FRIDAY of every month at BIDDY McGRAW'S in Portland.

The band rehearsing right now includes Jim McKeon on guitar, Andy Love on Drums and Tyler Smith on bass. Jim has blown Lincoln's mind at the New Year's Eve set they did together at imbibe and the Haiti Benefit last Friday. Andy Love was the surprise guest at Cross-eyed Rosie's annual Christmas Party in December, sitting in on the skins and adding a whole new pocket to Rosie's brand of folky grooves. Tyler Smith and Andy Love have been a rhythm section together for years. Lincoln first caught them together in guitarist Jon Ostrom's short-lived but incredibly powerful band Badger, where they layed it down with such force that Lincoln has been joking he's going to pee himself in shock.

Biddy Mcgraw's is located at 6000 NE Glisan in Portland, Oregon. Lincoln is proud to be joining the roster of fantastic local and regional acts who have found a home at Biddy's. www.biddymcgraws.com

Hope to see you there!

Great shows Friday & Saturday - Haiti was helped and Edgefield exorcised. - January 12, 2008

Thanks to everyone who made Friday's and Saturday's shows such a success. On Firday we raised almost $1000 for Healing Hands for Haiti, a fantastic figure for a venue as cozy as Mississippi Pizza. I am particularly grateful to the musicians who made Friday such a treat for me as a performer: Josh Cole, Andy Lohr and "Dr. Kate" Saylor for joining me for bluegrass-by-the-seat-of-our-pants, and the incomperable Jim McKeon for helping me take the closing set to new heights.

It never ceases to amaze me how lucky I am to have such strong supporters in the audience every night. I am forever grateful to share these experiences with you. See you out there again soon!
